Characterizing Hydrological Functioning of Three Large Karst Springs in the Salem Plateau, Missouri, USA

Spring discharge hydrographs can provide information on karst aquifer connectivity and responses to precipitation. However, few studies have conducted time-series analyses of spring over multi-decadal time scales. We examine daily for three large springs precipitation adjoining weather stations during 1928–2019 in the Salem Plateau southern Missouri, one major regions USA. For different periods, we baseflow index calculations (autocorrelation, spectral density, cross-correlation with precipitation) data, Mann–Kendall (MK) trend data. Hydrograph separation indicates is baseflow-dominated (86–94%) at all springs. The memory effect lower Bennett (with an auto-correlation lag 29–41 days) than Big (60–92 Greer (77–112 days). Spectral density analysis that annual signals dominate Cross-correlation shows a quicker response (0–1 (1–2 MK significant increases multiple decades, but not period 2007–2019. Increased accompanies regional precipitation, may also reflect increased recharge associated reversion farmland forest.
